EAACI/UEMS EXAMINATION KNOWLEDGE TEST IN ALLERGOLOGY AND CLINICAL IMMUNOLOGY
Date: Saturday, 11 June 2011 at 11.00 Venue: 30th EAACI Congress in Istanbul Application: 01 February 2011 to 01 April 2011 Contact person: Sladjana Scepan, sladjana.scepan@eaaci.net Since 3 years, EAACI provides an European Knowledge Test for Allergology and Clinical Immunology. It will take place for the fourth time at the EAACI Congress 2011 in Istanbul (June 11th). It will include about 100 multiple-choice questions in English. Candidates will have 180 minutes to complete the exam. On June 5 2010, the 3rd European Examination in Allergology and Clinical Immunology took place in London. 52 candidates applied for the Exam, finally 43 candidates from 23 countries took the examination: 10 from Switzerland, 4 each from Greece and Germany, 3 each from Spain and Slovenia, 2 from France and single participants Romania, Portugal, USA, Belgium, United Kingdom, Russian Federation, Italy, Slovakia, Ireland, Czech Republic, Turkey and The Netherlands. Also 6 participants from outside Europe participated at the Exam, coming from Canada, India, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, United States and Trinidad & Tobago. The examination was based on revised questions from a question pool, and on many new questions prepared by the EAACI task force members stemming from different European centers. The majority of questions (72%) covered topics of allergology such as: allergens, dermatological, respiratory and pediatric allergy, anaphylaxis, venom hypersensitivity, drug and food hypersensitivity. Also issues like pregnancy and allergology, occupational allergies, eosinophilic disorders, mastocytosis, CI-INH deficiency were touched. The examination also comprised some questions (28%) about basic immunology and clinical immunology (autoimmunity and immune deficiency). The questions were carefully evaluated by the EAACI Exam/Knowledge Test Task Force, together with a specialized professional institution (Institute for Medical Teaching, IML, Bern). Finally, 37 candidates (85%) passed the exam and we cordially congratulate them to their success! Those that were not successful can repeat the exam. EAACI will also offer a substantial number of example questions so that all candidates have substantial support in preparing for the exam. The Examination/Knowledge Test in Allergology/Clinical Immunology takes place every year during the EAACI Congress and the next one will take place on Saturday 11 June 2011 at 11.00. Although it does not replace or substitute the currently existing national examinations, that are regularly held by national bodies, our view is that this examination will help to further increase the standard of Allergology/Clinical Immunology in Europe, and facilitate exchange of young people trained in Allergology and Clinical Immunology in Europe.
